John Bates

John is a Solicitor and Senior Lecturer in Law at Northumbria Law School, Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. His specialist subject areas there are Tort and Civil Litigation, along with Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury Litigation. John qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and, prior to joining Northumbria Law School, was a dispute resolution partner/director in a law firm, where his practice comprised substantial personal injury litigation, including travel law cases with domestic and international elements, acting mainly for seriously-injured claimants. He has been a member of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority’s accreditation scheme for personal injury (or its predecessor, the Law Society’s Personal Injury Panel) since 2002 and a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers since 1993. He belongs to Northumbria Law School’s Centre for Criminal and Civil Evidence and Procedure.
