Melissa Murray is a senior consultant in Bird & Bird’s Abu Dhabi office having practised in the United Arab Emirates since 2006.
Melissa advises international and regional franchisors, distributors, hotel operators, developers and service providers on their operations in the Middle East and specifically the United Arab Emirates. She specialises in all forms of strategic and operational franchise, agency and commercial law governing franchise operations throughout the Middle East. Her wider experience includes the exploitation of intellectual property rights in the fashion, food and beverage, childcare & schooling, real estate, sporting goods, pharmaceutical, IT services and general retail industries.
Melissa is referenced in Chambers & Partners as an ‘Associate to Watch’ and recommended in Legal 500 both for intellectual property and various Middle East franchising deals. She contributes to various publications such as franchising newsletters and websites and is published in the Dubai Chamber of Commerce Guide to Franchising booklet. Melissa is a regular speaker on Middle East franchising and has previously presented at the Opening a Franchise in Dubai conference in conjunction with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce.
Melissa is admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia, holds an LLB from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance (Chartered Secretaries Australia). She is a member of Chartered Secretaries Australia (Australian division of ICSA) and is a member of a number of international, UAE and Australian business and legal associations.
